Historical Program Information

This is the official record of approved programs.

Each record in this report represents a program that has been approved at a university SEC accredited campus.
The report includes all the CIP codes and programs that were active in 2007 when the database was created as well as all programs which have been approved afterwards. Programs that were terminated prior to 2007 are not included.
This report includes the primary report and three subreports
Primary Report:
The base report that retrieves all records with no filters. In other words, this report includes all the programs that have existed in the SUS (since 2007) as well as programs that have been terminated since then.
Programs suspended for new enrollments:
Retrieves the programs that have suspended new student enrollments, but were not terminated. Programs that suspended new student enrollments and were subsequently terminated are NOT included in this report.
Programs with Changed CIPS:
Retrieves only programs for which the CIP code has changed.
Terminated Programs:
Retrieves only programs that have been terminated. The effective termination term may be in the future. For example, this report includes terminated programs that have effective termination dates in the past as well as in the future (fall 2016).

Column Definitions

Institution:
The University with the program.
CIP:
The CIP code of the program.
Prior CIPs:
Prior CIPS assigned to this program. CIP codes change occasionally if the program evolves into slightly different direction than the original CIP description.
CIP Title
The associated NCES title for the CIP code.
Program Title:
The name of the program as assigned by the university.
Degree Level:
The degree level of the potentially accredited program.
Approver:
The organization that approved the creation of this program. Options are as follows:
UBOT: Approves non-PhD programs.
BOG: Approves PhD programs.
BOR:Approved all programs prior to dissolution.
Approval Date:
The date the program creation was approved.
Implemented:
The term and year that the program was implemented.
Comments:
Any explanation of unusual circumstances.
Excel CIP:
The CIP code formatted such that the leading zeros remain when opening in Excel.
Terminated:
The term no new students are allowed to enter the program.
Area:
The Area of Emphasis associated with this program for all universities. Options are as follows:
STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics
EDUCATION: Education
GLOBAL: Global
SECURITY: Security
HEALTH: Health
Suspended:
The term and year that the program was suspended.
