A classification of a course section based on the delivery of direct instruction at the start of the semester.

All course sections will be classified by one instructional delivery indicator. The four traditional categories (AD, PD, HB, CL) all share the characteristic that all of the students in the same course section use the same delivery modality. Effective for the Fall 2020 term, Board staff added a new FLEX value to capture the course sections in which there is a mix of modalities within the same course section that allows students the option to switch between the modalities during the term.

Notes: (1) Course sections with mixed modalities that are predetermined/scheduled by the instructor at the start of the term to accommodate classroom capacity constraints and results in all students in the section having the same percentages of remote work is not a FLEX section and should be assigned one of the traditional non-FLEX designations. (2) The course section¿s delivery method designation is independent of students who need to temporarily switch from face-to-face to remote instruction, with the instructor's permission, for medical or other issues. (3) These designations account for planned adjustments to academic calendars (like being remote after thanksgiving or spring break) that are known at the beginning of the term. Unexpected adjustments to the academic calendar are not captured by these designations. FLEX courses start the term as FLEX. No academic calendar adjustment can change a non-FLEX into a FLEX.

'ADADFull Distance Learning Course
Full Distance Learning Course - 100% of the direct instruction of the course is delivered using some form of technology when the student and instructor are separated by time, space, or both. All special course components (exams, internships, practica, clinicals, labs, etc) that cannot be completed online can be completed off-campus.		-
'CLCLPrimarily Classroom Course
Primarily Classroom Course - Less than 50% of the direct instruction of the course section is delivered using some form of technology when the student and instructor are separated by time, space or both. This designation can include activities that do not occur in a classroom (ie, labs, internships, practica, clinicals, labs, etc). These course sections are required to have records on the COURSE MEETINGS table.		-
'FLFLFlex Course
Flex course - any course section that is delivered using both face-to-face and remote modalities that allows students to switch between modalities during the term. These course sections are required to have records on the COURSE MEETINGS table.		-
'HBHBHybrid Course
Hybrid Course - 50-79% of the direct instruction of the course section is delivered using some form of technology when the student and instructor are separated by time, space or both. These course sections are required to have records on the COURSE MEETINGS table.		-
'PDPDPrimarily Distance Learning Course
Primarily Distance Learning Course - 80-99% of the direct instruction of the course section is delivered using some form of technology when the student and instructor are separated by time, space, or both. There is a requirement for the student to attend campus or another explicit geographic location for a portion of the course. These course sections are required to have records on the COURSE MEETINGS table.		-
